The Veve Rubbish Management Programme, led by the Tongan Youth Trust with support from the Auckland City Council and representative Lorraine Kamilo who works in the councils rubbish management sector - addresses the pressing issue of waste management within Tongan and Pasifika communities. Recognising the struggle of youth and families in handling rubbish effectively, the programme aims to instill practical skills and a sense of responsibility towards waste management.

Inspired by Veve (Rubbish) Theology - cultivated by Rev. ‘Ikilifi Pope, which integrates biblical principles to promote environmental stewardship, Veve emphasises the importance of managing rubbish respectfully to preserve the Earth for future generations. Through collaboration with churches and youth groups, the programme seeks to embed these principles into community life, fostering a long-term commitment to environmental sustainability. Ultimately, by educating and advocating for responsible rubbish disposal, Veve strives to create a healthier, cleaner, and more sustainable future for Tongan and Pasifika communities.
